Vinification
Opoka is a terroir-driven cuvée from Marjan Simčič named after the characteristic limestone-marl soil of the Goriška Brda vineyards. Chardonnay ferments and ages in oak barrels with moderate new-oak use, giving the wine structure without losing varietal character. The style aims at precision and the minerality of the terroir.
Winery Story
Marjan Simčič is one of the key estates of Goriška Brda, on the border between Slovenia and Friuli. The winery is in its third generation and has earned international recognition for terroir-driven white wines of the highest quality. Marjan Simčič is regarded as one of the pioneers who lifted the wines of this region to world-class standards.
Vineyard Story
The vineyards lie on the characteristic 'opoka' soils — limestone-marl deposits typical of Goriška Brda. These soils provide excellent drainage and infuse the wine with expressive minerality and freshness. A mild Mediterranean climate combined with Alpine winds creates ideal conditions for preserving natural acidity.
