Vinification
The fruit is grown on the volcanic soils of Etna at 600–1000 m above sea level. Fermentation runs on native yeasts; ageing takes place in large oak casks (botti) to preserve freshness and terroir character. The style aims at elegance and transparency, recalling a Burgundian approach to Pinot Noir.
Winery Story
Tenuta delle Terre Nere was founded by Marco de Grazia in the early 2000s — one of the first winemakers to believe in the potential of Etna as a great world-class terroir. The estate has been a pioneer in reviving the indigenous grapes and old vineyards on the volcano's northern slope. Today Terre Nere is considered a benchmark Etna producer that has set standards for the whole region.
Vineyard Story
The vineyards lie on the northern slope of Etna, in the commune of Castiglione di Sicilia, at altitudes ranging from 600 to 1000 metres above sea level. The soils are volcanic basalt and ash with high mineral content and low fertility, yielding small crops of intense character. Many vines are 80–100 years old, planted on own roots, lending the wine depth and authenticity.
