Vinification

Tondonia Reserva ages in American oak barrels for at least six years, then undergoes further bottle ageing at the winery. The winemaking follows traditional Riojan methods without modern technology — no filtration, with minimal intervention. The result is a wine with a deep oxidative note, refined elegance and exceptional ageing potential.

Winery Story

Bodegas López de Heredia is one of the oldest and most revered wineries in Rioja, founded in 1877 by Rafael López de Heredia. The estate remains in family hands to this day and is uncompromisingly committed to the traditional style of winemaking, ignoring modern trends. Their iconic Tondonia wines are regarded worldwide as a benchmark of classic Rioja.

Vineyard Story

The Viña Tondonia vineyard lies on a bend of the Ebro river near Haro and covers about 100 hectares, planted with vines aged between 30 and 80 years. The soils are limestone-clay with good drainage, which combined with a moderate continental climate produces fruit with high natural acidity and a delicate structure. The estate farms the vineyards along organic lines, without synthetic chemicals.
