Vinification

Cuvée Marguerite is an aromatic white assemblage of Muscat à Petits Grains, Muscat d'Alexandrie and Macabeu grown on the schist and gneiss soils of the Roussillon. Tom Lubbe, founder of Matassa, works in a natural mode: minimal intervention, wild-yeast fermentation, very low or zero sulfite use. The aim is to convey the living, aromatic and drinkable character of the Cathar-Corbières terroir.

Winery Story

Matassa was founded by Tom Lubbe — a former wine importer who moved to the Roussillon and fell in love with its wild terroir. The estate works along organic and natural-winemaking lines, avoiding chemistry in the vineyard and intervention in the cellar. Matassa's wines are known for their distinctive personality, energy and an honest reflection of place.

Vineyard Story

Matassa's vineyards lie in the foothills of the Corbières and Cathar mountains, up to 400 metres above sea level, on lean schist and gneiss soils. A Mediterranean climate with strong tramontane winds shapes wines of bright acidity and aromatic concentration. The old vines of the Muscat varieties yield small crops of deeply aromatic fruit.
