Vinification
Schioppettino from I Clivi — a grape historically tied to Friuli — is grown on steep slopes with sandy-marl soils. The winemaking is minimalist: native yeasts, gentle extraction, ageing in large old casks or neutral vessels to preserve varietal purity. The aim is to convey the terroir without excessive oak treatment.
Winery Story
I Clivi is the small family estate of Ferdinando Zanusso and his son Mario in the hills of Friuli (Collio and Colli Orientali). Farmed organically around old vines of native varieties, it is regarded as a benchmark for pure, terroir-driven whites of north-east Italy.
Vineyard Story
I Clivi's vineyards lie on steep terraces of Collio and Colli Orientali del Friuli at up to 200 metres above sea level. The soils are the region's characteristic rock 'ponca' — layered marl-limestone, giving the wines a high minerality and pronounced acidity. Schioppettino is particularly expressive on these soils, where the cool mountain climate underscores its natural spice and freshness.
