Vinification
Kadarka 1880 is a tribute to the historic heritage of Kadarka in the Subotica region, where this variety has been cultivated since the late 19th century. The wine is produced in a light, delicate style with minimal intervention, emphasising the variety's natural acidity and fruitiness. Low sulfur levels and careful cellar work preserve the wine's liveliness and freshness.
Winery Story
Oscar Maurer is a small family producer from Subotica in northern Serbia, in a region with rich winemaking traditions rooted in the Austro-Hungarian era. The winery specialises in autochthonous regional grapes, with particular attention to Kadarka as a symbol of local identity. The approach is marked by minimal intervention and a striving to convey the terroir's character.
Vineyard Story
The vineyards lie in the Subotica–Palić area of the Pannonian plain, with light sandy and loess soils that ensure good drainage. This type of soil historically protected the vineyards from phylloxera, preserving old Kadarka vines. A continental climate with hot summers and cool nights helps preserve acidity and fineness in the wine.
