Vinification
Babiole is a light, drinkable cuvée from Andrea Calek, made in a natural style with no added sulfur. The fruit is fermented with partial carbonic maceration to preserve freshness and fruitiness. The wine is built for immediate drinking and reflects the philosophy of an 'unpretentious wine'.
Winery Story
Andrea Calek is a Czech-origin winemaker who settled in the Rhône valley and became one of the cult figures of French natural winemaking. His estate lies in the Ardèche, where he works with minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. Calek is known for his approachable, lively, honest wines, beloved by natural-wine fans around the world.
Vineyard Story
The vineyards lie in the Ardèche on the granite and limestone soils characteristic of the southern Rhône valley. A moderate climate and a biodynamic approach to farming yield fruit with bright natural acidity and an expressive fruit character. Low yields and hand harvesting ensure quality even in entry-level cuvées like Babiole.
