Vinification
Kalkundkiesel Weiss is a white blend of Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner and Muskateller grown on the limestone-gravel soils of Burgenland. Claus Preisinger works along biodynamic lines, intervening minimally in the winemaking process. The wine ferments with minimal sulfur additions, preserving its liveliness and natural character.
Winery Story
Claus Preisinger is one of Austria's best-known natural winemakers, working in Gols (Burgenland) since the early 2000s. He applies strict, Demeter-certified biodynamics and espouses a philosophy of minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. His wines have become a symbol of the new generation of Austrian natural winemaking.
Vineyard Story
The name Kalkundkiesel translates as 'limestone and gravel' — and that is exactly what makes up the soils of these Burgenland vineyards. The limestone-gravel terroir gives the wines their characteristic minerality and freshness. The vineyards are worked entirely by hand following the biodynamic calendar.
