Vinification
The wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grown on Fontodi's own vineyards in the Conca d'Oro zone of Panzano-in-Chianti. The fruit is fermented in stainless-steel vats, after which the wine is aged in large Slavonian oak casks (large botti and barriques) for about 12–14 months. The style is geared towards terroir expression — elegance, acidity and fruit freshness.
Winery Story
Fontodi is a family estate of the Manetti family at the heart of Chianti Classico in the village of Panzano-in-Chianti. The winery is one of the benchmarks of the zone and moved to organic and biodynamic farming back in the 1990s. Giovanni Manetti is considered one of the reformers of Chianti Classico who put the focus on the purity of the Sangiovese grape.
Vineyard Story
Fontodi's vineyards lie in the natural amphitheatre of Conca d'Oro at 350–400 metres above sea level. The soils are mainly galestro and alberese — the limestone-schist and clay-limestone rocks characteristic of Chianti Classico, giving the wines high acidity and minerality. The Panzano microclimate provides significant diurnal temperature swings that preserve aromatics and freshness.
