Vinification

Matassa's Planals cuvée is a light, lively red wine made from several grapes, including Grenache, Macabeu and Muscat d'Alexandrie. Tom Lubbe practices minimal intervention: fermentation on wild yeasts, no fining or filtration, with very little or no added sulfur. The style is focused on freshness and on expressing the terroir of Catalan Roussillon.

Winery Story

Matassa is the estate of Tom Lubbe and Masami Harita, founded in the early 2000s in Calce, at the heart of Roussillon. Tom, originally from South Africa, became one of the pioneers of natural winemaking in France, working with very old vines on granite and schist soils. His wines stand out for their honesty, lightness and a deep respect for place.

Vineyard Story

Matassa's vineyards lie in and around Calce in the Roussillon foothills, with a mix of granite and schist soils. The vines are often very old, yielding small crops of concentrated yet delicate fruit. A Mediterranean climate with the tramontane wind provides natural freshness and the preservation of acidity.
