Vinification
Andrea Calek is a Czech-origin winemaker working in the Ardèche of the southern Rhône. The wines are made in a natural style with no added sulfur or only minimal use, and fermentation on wild yeasts. 'Chatons de Garde' is a light, fresh Syrah cuvée focused on drinkability and the expression of the granite-soil terroir of the Ardèche.
Winery Story
Andrea Calek is a Czech-origin winemaker who moved to the Ardèche (southern Rhône) and became one of the cult producers of natural wine in France. He works without herbicides or pesticides and keeps to biodynamic principles and minimal cellar intervention. His wines are known for their liveliness, purity and a unique terroir identity.
Vineyard Story
The vineyards lie in the Ardèche on granite and schist soils that lend the wines their characteristic minerality and freshness. The climate is moderate for the Rhône, allowing natural acidity to be preserved and producing refined rather than heavyweight reds. Low yields and hand harvesting ensure the high quality of the fruit.
