Vinification
The Kieselstein cuvée ('gravel') from Claus Preisinger is a light, lively Zweigelt grown on the gravelly soils of Burgenland. The winemaking is minimalist: spontaneous fermentation, no heavy-handed intervention, minimal sulfur addition. The aim is to convey the transparency of the terroir and varietal purity.
Winery Story
Claus Preisinger is one of the leading figures of Austrian natural winemaking, working in Gols (Burgenland). He moved to biodynamic methods in the early 2000s and became a symbol of a new generation of Austrian winemakers who combine tradition with a non-intervention philosophy. His wines are valued for their honesty, energy and terroir expressiveness.
Vineyard Story
Preisinger's vineyards lie on the shores of Lake Neusiedl, where gravelly and pebbly soils provide excellent drainage and a mineral character. The name Kieselstein refers directly to these rounded stones, which hold the day's warmth and release it to the vine at night, supporting even ripening and freshness.
