Vinification
Galea is a single-variety Friulano from I Clivi, vinified in the traditional Friulian style: fermentation and ageing in large oak casks or neutral vessels to preserve varietal purity. The winemaker Mario Zanusso pays particular attention to minimal intervention and the reflection of the Collio / Friuli Colli Orientali terroir. The wine ages on the fine lees, which gives it texture and depth while preserving freshness.
Winery Story
I Clivi is the small family estate of Ferdinando Zanusso and his son Mario in the hills of Friuli (Collio and Colli Orientali). Farmed organically around old vines of native varieties, it is regarded as a benchmark for pure, terroir-driven whites of north-east Italy.
Vineyard Story
The Galea grapes are grown on the hills of Friuli on Pontian-origin soils — a mix of clay, limestone and layered sandstone (flysch), characteristic of the Collio and Colli Orientali. Old vines bring low yields and concentrated minerality, while the cool climate with significant diurnal temperature swings shapes a high natural acidity.
