Vinification
Fruit from the Corcelette plot on the granite and volcanic soils of Morgon is fermented as whole bunches by semi-carbonic maceration, with no or very low added sulfur. Jean Foillard is one of the founders of the 'Beaujolais naturel' movement, and this cuvée reflects his non-intervention philosophy and the expression of the terroir. The wine is aged in old Burgundian barrels, which gives it structure without excessive oak influence.
Winery Story
Jean Foillard is a legendary winemaker from Morgon, one of the four 'bandits' (along with Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton and Jean-Paul Thévenet) who turned the Beaujolais world upside down in the 1980s. Under the influence of Jules Chauvet he moved to organic farming and additive-free winemaking, setting a new standard for natural wines in France. His estate is now run by the family and remains a benchmark of honest, terroir-driven Gamay.
Vineyard Story
The Corcelette plot lies at the heart of the Morgon appellation, on the slopes of the Côte du Py hill with characteristic volcanic and granite soils rich in manganese. This terroir gives Gamay a depth, structure and minerality unusual for Beaujolais, and the wines from it are known for their ability to age. The vines here are old and own-rooted, which keeps yields low and concentration high.
